Introduction

GDN is a voluntary network

As a voluntary network without funding (except in exceptional circumstances) GDN currently operates with a small Secretariat who reach consensus on policy plans and actions. GDN has limited human resources to manage reporting requirements but is committed to the principles of gender equality in everything it does and the way it does it/

Dedicated Resources

GDN has a Secretariat of three volunteers and the volunteer Coordinator. The Secretariat has responsibility for the development, implementation and monitoring of the network’s equality, diversity and inclusion strategies, initiatives, and their action plans. The Secretariat is led by the Coordinator, Professor Maureen Fordham, who provides dedicated administrative support.

Data collection and monitoring

GDN does not yet collect data on volunteers or members but plans to do so from 2026. The data collected will includes protected characterises that are used to evaluate progress on our strategies, policies, processes and practices with the aim of identifying barriers and developing action plans to eliminate those barriers. Reports and progress will be monitored by GDN's Secretariat before being shared with the membership. The key annual reports that will review EDI include: • Human Resources’ Annual report • Equality & Diversity Metrics Report • Access and Participation plans • Gender Pay Gap reports

Training

All volunteers will receive mandatory EDI training, which will be refreshed periodically. Our training will aim to increase awareness and understanding of bias and inequality and develop inclusive behaviours and practice.
