Recognising the overrepresentation of women in the refugee and internally displaced communities, this article examines the vulnerabilities of women during humanitarian emergencies, their lower access to capital, social goods and legal means for protection, and the care responsibilities post disaster or post conflict. The article also explores masculinity in humanitarian emergencies and identifies biases in crisis responses.
