The author starts with a critique of the 'multicultural state' which does recognize and incorporate the indigenous people but only ‘as static, archaic figures’. This results in the erasure of the ‘contemporaneity, complexity and dynamism’ of Indigenous people and ignores the possibility for them to challenge the current order. The author then argues that the academic field is not immune to colonial practices. The dynamics of coloniality are reproduced in knowledge production even among academic scholars of decoloniality, in particular from the Global North.
