This study is a contribution to CARE’s humanitarian and emergency strategy learning agenda. It aims to examine the opportunities and challenges in gender equality and women’s empowerment in emergency contexts and provide lessons for future humanitarian responses in the Horn of Africa. The main trends noted in the findings include improved access and acceptance of girls in education, women’s increasing participation in economic activities, and increasing engagement of women in social spheres. The study concludes with 7 recommendations for CARE to take in future studies.
