This publication, addressed to national and international decision-makers demonstrates the link between disaster risk reduction (DRR) and climate change adaptation (CCA) while adopting a gender lens. The specific reference presents a case study the G.I.R.R.L. - Girls in Risk Reduction Leadership - project which took place in 2008 in South Africa. Girls living in the informal settlements of Sonderwater were invited to take part in a two-month program in personal and public health, fire safety, counseling and disaster planning followed by a conference to showcase their learnings.
