18th World Conference on Disaster Management (WCDM), 15-18 June, Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
Organised by the Canadian Centre for Emergency Preparedness, the theme of the conference will be Resiliency - Individual, Community and Business. Participants will be from diverse backgrounds, including Emergency Management, Business Continuity, Emergency Response, Risk Management, IT Disaster Recovery, Emergency Health, or other related Disaster Management disciplines. The conference aims to provide a unique venue for Disaster Management professionals from around the world to present, network and learn. A major goal of WCDM is to offer a program that challenges delegates by examining traditional concepts and methods and provides new ideas and approaches to problem solving, both leading edge and topical presentations, and opportunities to connect with key individuals and organizations across the disaster management spectrum.

International Conference on Water Related Disaster Reduction, 27-28 June, Tajikistan
In view of increasing concern about disasters, the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan has taken a decision to organize an International Conference on Water related Disaster Reduction. This Conference is aimed at mobilizing efforts of governments, UN organizations, international and regional organizations, private sector and civil society for the prevention of and preparedness for natural disasters, as well as assistance in raising public awareness, promoting best experience and facilitating cooperation. It is expected that the results of the 1st Asia-Pacific Water Summit, which includes the priority theme Water Disaster Management, will be widely discussed at this conference.

Dealing with Disasters 2008 International Conference: Putting Resilience into Response, 10-11 July, Cardiff, United Kingdom
The 2008 conference will explore and highlight best practice in the emergency services, disaster healthcare, post disaster forensic investigation, natural hazards and business continuity. It will focus on planning for resilience as well as emergency response. Speakers include a wide range of national and international disaster management experts from professional organisations and universities.

2nd International Disaster Reduction Conference, 25-29 August, Davos, Switzerland. The conference will take an integrated, multidisciplinary approach when addressing the different kinds of risks affecting society today, risks which might be far beyond any particular stakeholder’s capacity to control and that may adversely affect multiple parties across geographic borders, sectors and industries. 13th World Water Congress, 1-4 September, Montpellier, France. The objective of this congress is to raise global consciousness of the impact of global climate change on water resources. The Congress contributes to the study of the earth’s water resources by opening the dialogue between public and private partners, users and decision makers, and emerging and developed countries. Topics will include water availability, use, and management; climate change and disasters; development of water resources and infrastructure; water governance and water security; water conservation and demand management; and capacity building in developing countries.

The Third International Workshop on Gender and Disasters, 8-11 October 2008, Kocaeli, Turkey
Kocaeli University, Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences, Turkey, seeks proposals for participating in an interdisciplinary international workshop for the victims of the recent disasters, emergency responders, relief workers, volunteers of voluntary organizations, governmental representatives, as well as the researchers who focus on gender related disaster topics. The event will cover topics that integrate the gender perspective into all natural disaster related policies and decision-making processes with the consideration of cultural differences. Lodging, breakfast and some meals will be provided for all participants. Limited funds available for travel support for the international participants coming from the non-Western world. Third Global Congress of Women in Politics and Governance: Focus on Climate Change and Disaster Risk Reduction, 19-22 October, Manila, Philippines
The Congress aims to provide a forum for leaders and decision-makers at all levels in formulating a gender responsive legislation and programs related to gender in climate change and disaster risk reduction. Invited to the Third Global Congress of Women in Politics and Governance are female and male parliamentarians, decision-makers in national government, environment organizations/agencies, youth leaders and media practitioners, funding/donor agencies and organizations.

The AWID International Forum on Women's Rights and Development, 14-17 November Cape Town, South Africa
The International Forum on Women's Rights and Development is both a conference and a call to action. The largest recurring event of its kind, the AWID Forum brings together women's rights leaders and activists from around the world every three years to strategize, network, celebrate, and learn in a highly charged atmosphere that fosters deep discussions and sustained personal and professional growth.
